Free CSS Starter File Generator
This generator assembles a clean CSS starting file from the pieces you tick: a modern reset, custom properties for colours and spacing, base typography, and an optional dark mode block. Set a primary colour and base size, then download one tidy file to begin any project. Nothing is uploaded.
How it works
Selected modules concatenate into one file: box-sizing reset and margin normalisation, a :root block with brand and spacing tokens, fluid body and heading sizes from the base size, optional component styles, and a prefers-color-scheme dark block. Variables keep later theming to single-line edits.
Example
| Option | Output |
|---|---|
| Variables + 16px | :root tokens, 1rem body, scaled headings |
Frequently asked questions
What is a CSS reset?
A short ruleset that neutralises browser default differences so layouts start consistent everywhere.
Why CSS variables?
One :root edit re-themes the site instead of hunting values through the file.
Is this a framework?
No. It is a small starting file you own and extend, with no dependencies or unused code.
How do I use dark mode?
The dark block follows the operating system setting automatically once included.
Is anything uploaded?
No. The file is assembled locally in your browser.
