Free Password Generator
This password generator creates strong random passwords using your browser's cryptographic random generator, the same grade of randomness security tools rely on. Choose a length and character sets below; generated passwords are never stored or transmitted. Pair every account with a unique password and a password manager.
How it works
Characters are drawn with crypto.getRandomValues, which provides cryptographically secure randomness, unlike Math.random, its output cannot be predicted. Strength in bits ≈ length × log₂(pool size); a 16-character password from all four sets carries about 105 bits, far beyond brute-force reach. The estimate shown is informational, not a security guarantee.
Example
| Length | Sets | Strength |
|---|---|---|
| 12, letters + numbers | 62 chars | ≈ 71 bits |
| 16, all sets | 94 chars | ≈ 105 bits |
| 20, all sets | 94 chars | ≈ 131 bits |
Frequently asked questions
How long should my password be?
Use at least 16 characters for important accounts. Longer passwords increase cracking time exponentially.
Are generated passwords truly random?
Yes. This tool uses the browser's cryptographic random generator, not predictable math-based randomness.
Are my passwords sent anywhere?
No. Generation happens locally and nothing is stored or transmitted. Still use a password manager rather than reusing passwords.
Should I use symbols in passwords?
Symbols expand the character set and help. Some older systems reject them, so the tool lets you exclude them.
Is a password manager better than memorising?
Yes. A reputable manager gives every account a unique long password while you remember one master password plus two-factor authentication.
