Free URL Encoder & Decoder
This URL tool percent-encodes special characters for safe links and decodes encoded URLs back to readable text. Choose component mode for query values or full-URL mode preserving structure. It is designed for fixing shared links, building redirects and debugging tracking tags. Nothing is uploaded.
How it works
Component mode encodes everything reserved, right for single query values. Full-URL mode encodes only characters illegal in URLs, leaving structure characters intact. Decoding reverses percent-triplets and reports malformed sequences instead of guessing.
Example
| Text | Encoded |
|---|---|
red shoes & socks | red%20shoes%20%26%20socks |
Frequently asked questions
When must I encode a URL?
Whenever values contain spaces, ampersands or non-ASCII characters, such as search terms in query strings.
Component or full-URL mode?
Component for a single value going inside a URL; full-URL when encoding a complete address without breaking it.
Why do I see %20?
That is the percent-encoding for a space. Browsers display it but request the right resource.
Does decoding ever fail?
Yes, on malformed sequences like a lone %. The tool reports these instead of guessing.
Is my text uploaded?
No. Conversion happens locally in your browser.
