Free VAT Calculator (South Africa)
This VAT calculator adds 15% VAT to a net amount or extracts VAT from a VAT-inclusive price, the two sums freelancers, shop owners and SMEs work out most. It is designed for drafting invoices and quotes, checking supplier bills, and planning prices. Results update on demand and nothing is uploaded.
How it works
Adding VAT multiplies the net amount by (1 + rate ÷ 100). Removing VAT divides the gross amount by the same factor, the VAT portion is then gross minus net. South Africa's standard VAT rate is 15%; the rate field is adjustable in case legislation changes.
Example
| Net | + 15% VAT | Gross |
|---|---|---|
| R1,000.00 | R150.00 | R1,150.00 |
| Extracting from R1,150.00 gross: net R1,000.00, VAT R150.00. | ||
